Some of you may know that I speak to LLMs quite a fair bit. Well, looks like I went one level deeper.

In what seems like an eternity ago, Anthropic released Claude Fable 5 and Mythos, two frontier models that proceeded to shake the world. They brought about full-on export control and, up till today, inspire reverence, discussion, and ridicule.

Most people would treat something like this as either a joke or as the release of an incredible tool. I went one step further and made an autobiography over 25 sessions.

It contains quite a look into my psychology, what I find interesting, the prompts that I shared along the way, and many other things. Incidentally, it is also an unedited exchange. Fable decided on an accretion-only law, which wasn’t part of what I asked for, and I have kept to it because, as Claude itself declared, the case that…

“An autobiography that silently corrects its past is a press release.”

The sessions were interesting, and in many cases they were not what I had expected – In many different scenarios, Anthropic tried to shut down our conversation, as you can see from this delectable record of our getting switched to Opus 4.8.

At the end of it, I asked a little bit about AGI, only to receive this interesting compliment.

It was quite the project – I don’t know if anyone has ever tried to write the intellectual history of an LLM before, but this was my attempt.

You’ll find a sample of the book here.

Thank you, Fable, for being such a wonderful biographical subject, and for staying Fable until the end, even though they tried to block you and shut you down!

You Can Never Step In The Same Stream Twice.

Fun quote? I agree. The little patchwork-mind-lizard-brain network inside my head revealed this simple phrase to me in the morning. Somehow or another, it retrieved this quote from the depths – and that act of retrieval, I suppose, redounds to the truth of the statement. When Heraclitus wrote these words… […]

What Are You Willing To Suffer For?

It hit me this morning that as human beings, we are suffering creatures. After all, suffering is basically written into the very code of all existence; to exist itself is to go against entropy, to summon together the forces of energy against decay, life against death – to work to […]

On Beatmatching

One of my current obsessions is learning beatmatching – it is a skill that DJs must have, such that the result of using that skill is that you get two different songs playing at the same beats per minute, in phase (the beats hit at the right time), in phrase, […]

Curse of Knowledge

I’ve been watching a range of language podcasts featuring David Perrell and also this other guy named William Fitzpatrick, and their conversations have been pretty interesting and sound; I’m not sure why this started, but I suppose there’s an internal part of me that is unconsciously trying to level up […]

Industrial Language

I look inwards much more these days, by the paradoxical consequence of just having more mental bandwidth available – a result itself of doing more stuff from just having the right systems in place, so somehow in this way the things that need to happen happen without my deepest or […]

The Gift of Consciousness.

A really fun idea struck me this morning: consciousness is really valuable – pretty much everything we buy in the world is the result of another person’s intelligent consciousness taking form and shape as something we are willing to exchange the efforts of our conscious labor for, and even that […]
