It’s 11:43 and I have like 17 minutes to write this, but it’s World Mental Health day, I had an amazing walk today with a bunch of bomb-ass lovely people (including one member of royalty pls don’t arrest me for lese majeste LOL) but I digress.

If there’s one single thought I want to communicate and one thing I want you to remember before I end the night, it’s this:

Social media is not real.

Look, maybe you’re looking at this from Instagram, a Facebook story, or something else. Chances are, it’s like the stories you’ve seen cascading one after another onto your feed every time you tap a little to the left or a little to the right, but if there’s one thing I hope, it’s this:

I hope you’re not imagining that you think the world is transparent just because you have social media and you can see how people curate their lives, the moments, the thoughts that they put out.

Sure, certain things happen, and the fact that certain pictures exist is proof – This person took a picture with that person. These two people appeared in an Instagram story. A photo opportunity happened here… Or something like that.

But the moment it gets into interpretation, that’s where people go haywire – Were these people in love? Were they not in love? Have they been friends for a long time, or a short time? Perhaps they are colleagues.

The possibilities are endless and really, you just don’t know, even on this small scale…

So why should you be able to tell about what “society” is like from looking at large scale behaviors?

More on this soon.

A Fuller Life

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of socializing, going out for events, meeting friends, hanging out; part of it is because I’ve become more efficient and thus a bit more on track to accomplishing these little goals I have for myself on the daily, but a little bit of it […]

On Narcissism in Simulacrum

A strange thing seems to be happening to one of my friends.  I won’t say which, and I may not actually tell her about this – If she does read this, whether immediately, down the line, or otherwise, I would be happy, but I won’t count on it.  She is […]

“This Is A Safe Space”.

These are words that I’ve heard different variants of time and time again, in different permutations and combinations across engagement sessions and times – and I think it is fascinating how they take their effect and how we may create that safe space for others even as we receive it […]

Capability.

It’s another one of those little occasions where I feel compelled to write down something; I suppose it would be different if I were committed, heart, soul, mind, and body towards the writing enterprise, but I admit that I am not there yet – but this morning, during this rare […]

You Can Never Step In The Same Stream Twice.

Fun quote? I agree. The little patchwork-mind-lizard-brain network inside my head revealed this simple phrase to me in the morning. Somehow or another, it retrieved this quote from the depths – and that act of retrieval, I suppose, redounds to the truth of the statement. When Heraclitus wrote these words… […]

What Are You Willing To Suffer For?

It hit me this morning that as human beings, we are suffering creatures. After all, suffering is basically written into the very code of all existence; to exist itself is to go against entropy, to summon together the forces of energy against decay, life against death – to work to […]
